NC Announces Correction to Fuel Tax Rate

posted in Blog by

nc charoletteThe North Carolina Department of Revenue has issued an advisory to motor carriers that file fuel use tax reports through the International Fuel Tax Agreement and that are not based in North Carolina.

Seems the state’s fuel tax rate on gasoline and diesel was shown by IFTA as 36 cents for the first quarter of this year, rather than 35 cents, the correct rate.  When NC pointed this out, some states and provinces did not have time to change their forms to show the correct rate.

The department advises all IFTA carriers to file their first-quarter reports with their base jurisdiction using whatever rate the base shows for NC.  NC is working with all the IFTA jurisdictions to ensure that carriers come out right in the end.

For more information, contact the NC Excise Tax Division at 877-308-9092.
